6. Hey Joe

This number is Jimi’s first single, even though the guitar player didn’t write it. It’s a sad tale about a man who was cheated on by his wife and eventually caught her, killed her and flees to Mexico.

5. Ezy Ryder

From ‘Cry of Love’

This number appeared on the first album released after Jimi’s death in 1971 and is inspired by the ‘Easy Rider’ movie. ‘Cry of Love’ is a collection of studio recordings that were meant to appear on Jimi’s next album and is a testament of what Jimi’s music would have become eventually; a lot less psychedelic and trippy guitars and a lot more funky riffs.

4. Voodoo Child

From ‘Electric Ladyland’

Voodoo Child is the last track on the album and a very beautiful reprise to the more psychedelic track ‘Voodoo Chile’. The track was released at the end of the ‘70s and is Jimi’s final single to come out of his only three albums that he finished before his death.

3. Bold as Love

From ‘Axis: Bold as Love’

The guitar player was already a great sensation releasing hit after hit when he entered the studio to record his second album ‘Axis: Bold as Love’. This track is a great finale and is one of the best songs on the album. Also, the lyrics paint a great picture about love and the way it is capable to change someone.

2. All Along the Watchtower

From ‘Electric Ladyland’

This track impressed even Bob Dylan (who is the original author of the song) and made him sing it the way Jimi did after his death. Dylan said “It overwhelmed me, really” and it is pretty easy to see why.

From ‘Are You Experienced’

‘Purple Haze’ is the opening track on his first album. If you heard of Jimi Hendrix, you heard of this song. Even though the song never made the charts in America it inspired almost everything. It’s part of our culture now and can be found anywhere from an LSD brand to an amazing scene in the cult movie ‘Apocalypse Now’. The song is number 17 on Rolling Stones’ top of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
